"I hypothesized that the colored salt water would layer on top of the plain fresh water because salt water is less dense than fresh water. I believed that eventually the salt water solution and fresh water solution would mix to form a dilute salt solution.

SURPRISE SUPRISE!!!

My investigation did not prove my hypothesis -- I had the entire thought process mixed up. What I should have assumed was that when I stated I can float easier in salt water than in fresh it would mean the salt water is denser than the fresh water!"
